Send a letter without a printer, stamps or a post office

To send a letter without a printer in the UK, use an online print-and-post service: write your letter, save it as a PDF, upload it to PostOwl, type the recipient’s UK address and pay by card. It is printed, enveloped and handed to Royal Mail the same working day, from £1.79, no stamps, no post office.

When do you need this?

Letters start life on a screen, and plenty of UK homes no longer keep a working printer, or the one in the cupboard is out of ink the moment you need it. Library and workplace printers are the usual fallback, but the library is closed when your deadline isn’t, and a shared office printer is nobody’s idea of private when the document is a PIP mandatory reconsideration or a letter to HMRC. When something has to go on paper and you have no paper to hand, an upload-to-post service does the physical part for you.

Can Royal Mail or the Post Office print and post a letter for me?

No. This surprises people, but neither offers a consumer upload-to-post service. The Post Office sells postage and takes mail you have already printed and sealed; Royal Mail collects and delivers it. Nowhere in either journey can you hand over a document and have it printed for you. That is the gap independent print-and-post services fill: PostOwl prints your PDF, envelopes it and passes it to Royal Mail for delivery, from £1.79, cheaper than the alternatives (see the comparison).

How do I send a letter online, step by step?

From screen to postbox in ~2 minutes

  1. Write your letter in Google Docs or Word (both work free in a browser).
  2. Save it as a PDF: File > Download > PDF in Google Docs, or File > Save As > PDF in Word.
  3. Upload the PDF on the send page.
  4. Type the recipient’s UK address.
  5. Pay by card or Apple Pay. Guest checkout, no account needed.

A one-page letter costs £1.79 second class or £2.69 first class; extra pages are £0.15 each. You get an email confirming the dispatch date, you can cancel free until the letter enters production, and your PDF is permanently deleted from our servers after dispatch.

No-printer FAQs

How do I send a letter if I don't have a printer?+

Use an online print-and-post service. Write your letter on any device, save it as a PDF and upload it to PostOwl. We print it, envelope it and hand it to Royal Mail, from £1.79, with same-day dispatch when you order before the cutoff. You never touch a printer, a stamp or a postbox.

Can the Post Office or Royal Mail print and post a letter for me?+

No. The Post Office sells postage and accepts mail you have already printed and sealed, and Royal Mail collects and delivers it. Neither offers a consumer service where you upload a document and they print and post it for you. Online print-and-post services like PostOwl fill that gap, from £1.79.

How do I save a document as a PDF?+

In Google Docs: File > Download > PDF Document (.pdf). In Microsoft Word: File > Save As, then choose PDF from the file type list. Most phone apps can share or export to PDF too. If you only have a photo or a scan, many free tools convert images to PDF in the browser.

How much does it cost to send a letter online?+

A one-page black-and-white letter posted second class costs £1.79. Extra pages are £0.15 each, colour printing adds £0.10 per page, and first class post is a £0.90 upgrade, so a one-page first class letter is £2.69. No subscription, no minimum order.

Do I need an account or stamps?+

Neither. PostOwl uses guest checkout (pay by card or Apple Pay without signing up) and postage is included in the price, so there are no stamps to buy. Your PDF is permanently deleted from our servers after dispatch.
