When to use another route
A general enquiry letter does not file a tax return or complete a formal appeal. Follow the relevant filing or appeal instructions. HMRC complaints and reports of tax fraud have separate routes.
Postal address

Before you write
- Say which tax year your question concerns and give the reference from the notice or earlier correspondence, if you have one.
- Explain the particular answer or correction you need. Include your contact details so HMRC can respond.
- HMRC also offers online support. If you have already written, check its reply-time guidance before sending the same enquiry again.
Check the official instructions again before sending, especially when replying to a letter that names a different team or address.
